Set a guard upon my mouth; keep the door
of my lips”, Psalm 141:3. That’s the start. There will
be many a fight after this. Thoughts, uninvited seep in, words arise
up, and the spirit is stirred. “Set a guard, O Lord,”
I’m about to go negative again. The thought passes, the word
dries up, then the spirit quiets. We escaped once more. Later, more
than often than not, we’re so glad we didn’t say anything
or shove our opinion into the atmosphere. Someone was left unhurt
and we grew just a bit stronger for the next fight for we know,
as sure as day follows night, it’s coming.
But we have to grow beyond that – from defense to offense.
We need to get to the place where we don’t want to think or
say that negative thing nor do we want to hear it. The only way
to get there is the path leading to love. We actually have to learn
(and that’s the key here), learn to love.
“Love”, someone said, “is not a feeling, it’s
a decision”. I will love…period. It must be possible
for our Lord would never ask us to do the impossible.
All to say it takes practice brother. Practice means perfection,
sister. Go to it, you can do it.
Reflections
- What the Scripture passage is teaching
me:
- What the Scripture passage is telling
me to do:
- How can I be different today; is this
an area I need to work on?
- What are some ways I can start showing
love to others?
- Pray the Scripture passage. Take the important
statements and insights in the passage and turn them into personal
requests for Gods work in your life.
