| Certainty
of Hope |
| By Rocio N. Baudille |
| |
| The word HOPE is used everyday
by so many of us. “I hope it doesn’t rain today”,
“I hope I get that promotion”, “I hope I can
make it there on time”, “I hope the war ends”,
“I hope I can find what I need”, “I hope so”.
HOPE what does it mean? While the modern meaning of the word
"hope" implies uncertainty and merely wishing for
something, which may or may not happen, the Greek word used
by the authors of the New Testament was a word, which implied
absolute certainty. There was no vagueness or uncertainty connected
with this word. The New Testament meaning of the word "hope"
is: |
| The inner attitude of
joyful and confident expectation and anticipation that everything
God has promised in His Word will come to pass. |
| There aren’t any classes
that teach hope. I haven’t seen any books that say “How
to HOPE for Dummies”. History has told us to hope, hope
for a better tomorrow, put your hope in the leaders of this
great country, and put your hope in each other. Our currency
says IN GOD WE TRUST. Now we’re talking. God. Trusting
God. “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and
certain of what we do not see” Hebrews 11:1. We
all have hope, but to what degree. Is your hope set here among
this world or is it in God? |
| The world is always disappointing
us. Leaders disappoint us. When hope dies in the human heart,
the mind and the will to live cease functioning. God has created
us so that we can hope in order to live. “And hope does
not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into
our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”
Romans 5:5 |
| God gives us hope.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…”
1Peter 1:3 |
| Hope is not blowing in the wind;
hope should be something you can hold onto. “We have this
hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews
6:19 |
| Put your hope in the Lord
today. Wait in him. Let him give you a future and a
hope. Let him guide you. “Guide me in your truth and teach
me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day
long” Psalm 25:5 |
There is a book on hope
it is called the BIBLE…the Gospel of Truth.
“- if you continue in your faith, established and firm,
not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the
gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every
creature under heaven…”
Colossians 1:23 |
